Several years ago, with leadership from County Supervisors, the California Legislature passed a bill authorizing Solano County to ask the voters to approve a Park District. The County has temporarily put these plans on hold given the 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic.
The Solano County Orderly Growth Committee has advocated for a Park District for many years. Solano County is the only county in the Bay Area without a voter-approved and funded district.
A park district will help Solano County residents and their quality of life. At its core, the Park District will grant local Solano County residents with two overarching goals:
A properly run park district should have permanent funding. This will allow for permanent infrastructure such as trails, picnic areas, and other amenities. It will allow for maintenance of those improvements as well as affording for more days per week of access. It will also allow for the purchase of additional parklands. A park district would become a new and rich element in our quality of life in Solano County.
